Under Pressure!

First of all, my apologies for not updating this blog regularly. As you can see, I’ve been going to the College of Fine Arts in UP Diliman for the past few days, taking care of shifting matters. All I can say is that commuting to Diliman (my mum said that we’d better venture out on riding buses so I’d know what to ride and where to go when I get admitted) is very very bone-ass tiring. Add the splash of summer heat and you’re dehydrated to death.

But all the exhaustion and hullabaloo from commuting really pays off once you get there. Just stepping inside the college made me feel extra special— it made me feel like I finally belong.

UP CFA’s Art Wall!

The shifting process has three parts, and the first is a one on one action with a professor from the college (please don’t get this wrong). We were asked to bring a portfolio with us during the interview, showcasing some of our previous works. I’m very glad to say that the interview went a-ok! The interviewer said that my figure drawing skills were fine and dandy, but I’d still have to improve on my coloring skills. He even said that he hopes that I could make it through! :)

Some of my previous works and photographs that I included in my portfolio.

The second part of the shifting process is the mental ability test, which mainly focused on our abstract reasoning abilities and study habits. They weren’t really that hard, too. I think I’ve done well in the abstract reasoning part for I’ve been answering exams like that since my primary school days. The study habit test was more of a subjective-survey type of test, so no worries on that one.

Third part’s the talent determination test which is scheduled tomorrow morning. This test, my friends, is what gives me the heebie-jeebies.

From what I have googled and eavesdropped, people say that this is the hardest part of the whole shifting process. They say that it’s a two part test wherein you’ll be given a statue to sketch, and a surprise theme to conceptualize. As you can see in the picture above, I’ve been practicing hell lots on statue and figure drawing (and yeah by the way, that picture above is my sketch of Venus de Milo). Sketching statues eats massive amounts of time, leaving none for practicing for the conceptualizing part. So yeah, bahala na si batman!

Yeaaaaaaaah.

Guess who’s a happy camper?
I’ve finally bought myself a 35 mm film after months of searching, plus my old lomo cam’s still working!

Spent the whole day indoors with my hombres!

College has been a total nagger for the nth time, so me and my friends decided to break off the tension by doing… well, manly things. And by manly, I mean the 21st century way of being a man: playing the xbox, trippin’ on random people in facebook, pigging out on nutella and yeah, cam-whoring

Lesson learned for the day: You can never take decent pictures when you’re with these guys.

The best thing about a Wong Kar-Wai film is that whenever you hit the pause button at any given point in the movie, the frame would tell the whole story.

Mayday! It’s V-day!

02/14/12

Vday shirt’s a success! Four pixelated skulls and a heart makes the world go round. What.

Roses are too mainstream, so I’ve given Sam a ‘You’re Not That Fat’ lollie instead.

And everythang’s all set and a-ok!

These foods, our mouths, oh god! We were in seventh heaven, man.

Sam’s height > my height. Curse the gods! (and that biking man for photobombing)

These last two pictures sum up that marvelous feeling of having a date on Valentine’s day:

I am a very very happy boy. :-)

  • Psuedo-vdate with Sam tomorrow, wherein we would stone happy couples to death and eat cheesecake like there’s no tomorrow,
  • Speech Communication & History exams to ace with flying colors,
  • Gonna watch a Vagina Monologue inspired play on Thursday courtesy of my ever sassy Professor Rufo,
  • It’s the Feb fair week! Oh the days of lollygagging and staying up late outdoors are finally here. Rock climbing + booth rummaging + food all over the place + unlimited bands= Woohoo
  • And the best of all is the overnight on Friday! High school friends studying in the Metro are coming over :-) :-)

Guess I’m gonna be all broke after Friday, eh? Ohwell, papel

As I was doing my weekly patrol in National Bookstore, I’ve found out that they have restocked their watercolor pads after 500 gajillion years, so yeah, you guys know what happened right after. I’m so stoked to use it! :—)

I almost always end up hating every people I meet in my life. Their flaws eventually stink on me, clouding and pushing back any good qualities that I’ve found in them. And once this happens, I can never really talk to them like it used to be any more. It starts out with feeling queasy and uncomfortable. Then awkwardness shrouds my mind every time I’m with them. Everything they say irks me. Fake smiles all the way. Then it comes to the final point wherein we’re complete strangers. They don’t really know why or how it happened. They will never know the answer why I have become so cold all of a sudden. I just drift away off the scene, with a fully decided plan on never coming back again.

I’ve cut the thread once again. Alone. Playing pretend that I don’t know anything.

Inspired & Dead Tired!

01/21/12

Field trips aren’t complete without a box of Pocky, and a can of A&W. (Yes, I munched on a choc flavored Pocky, and thank heavens, my migraine didn’t give a single fuck. Props to tylenol for always being here by my side! :-) )

And I have once again set foot on the Metro.

The trip was all about art appreciation, so yeah, we rummaged a handful of museums for the whole day. Museum-hopping prime time. To name a few, we visited the Lopez Memorial Museum, the Yuchengco Museum in Makati, and the National Museum. Exhibits and artworks galore!

Here are some of them in no particular order: (credit goes to the artists of the unnamed artworks)

Gaston Damag’s Rin-Awan

Roberto Chabet’s Four Directions

Tad Ermitaño’s Bell; This rad gramophone horn flashes neon blue when it reverberates buzzing sounds! Coolness meter: 105%

Dude, we’re in Hogwarts! Loljk, this one’s taken inside the San Agustin Church Museum.

And I think I’ve finally found love in a uhh, it’s really a creepy place (the church museum).

Frands fraaaands fraaaaaaaaaaaands

It’s the evil emperor Zurg from Planet Z! (illegally taken inside the museum which should not be named)

Nothing beats a cup of strawberry cheesecake gelato after a tiring day. :-)

Wow, a proper blog post after three hundred gajillion years! Self, I have to admit it. I’m really impressed.

As you can see, school has been a total nagger for the past few days, making me do things which I’m pretty sure would not matter in forty years time.

First off, trigonometry midterm was up and guess what? I think Confucius has finally granted my life long wish!

I also have an informative speech coming up this week! It’s all about MC Escher and his great optical illusions. It has left three things in my stomach: anxiety, butterflies, and cheat cards.

Plus this half-ass looking mask needs to be radded up for my Art Studies. I can’t really think of a decent design involving the province Marinduque, the Moriones festival, the sea and a bird (which my instructor strictly said we should incorporate in the mask).

Here are the only two ideas which has sprung out of my mind, and both clearly won’t pass the three requirements:

Oh well, I guess I’d have to separate ways with what my instructor has visualized. I mean, how the hell could you make a design out of the four requirements needed without making a Cyclops-looking mask? (Woop that’s an idea!)

On the other news, Scott Pilgrim’s my newest stress reliever.

I’d have to admit it, I’m completely in lesbians with the movie. I have watched it over and over again for about fifteen times, (wow what?) in between stressful school work hours and boring lame nights. Matthew Patel’s musical number with the demon hipster chicks tickles my funny bone every time I see it. Pirates are in this year!

The only good thing (well I can’t really fathom the duality of this one whether it’s a good or a bad thing due to the sexual innuendo) that has happened to me so far is this self-service sign given to me by my dear friend, Ynah. She told me that I instantly popped out of her mind when she saw this signage, and she also said that it may or may not be Skins related. I need to talk to Mr. Freud about this one.

And oh, I have two more exams to go, and a paper to finish so.. yeah.
